Treaty of Paris 1783
The Treaty of Paris 1783 officially ended the American Revolution. It was negotiated in France by John Jay, Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. All three of these people were very important to the growing of our country. John Jay and John Adams were both in the Continental Congress. John Adams was also the 2nd president. He only served one term and was very controlling. Benjamin Franklin made the Albany Plan of Union to support colonial unity and independence. The Treaty of Paris stated that the United States was an independent country; that the boundaries were the Mississippi River (West), Canada (North), and Spanish Florida (South); the United States had the rights to fish off Canada's Atlantic Coast; that each side (British and American) would repay any debts it owed the other; that the British were to return any enslaved persons that they had captured; and finally that states were to return any property they had seized from loyalists.
