Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were also called the Coercive Acts. The Acts closed Boston Harbor, which was a main source of trade. They closed the Harbor until the colonists paid for the dumped tea. They also took away certain rights from the Massachusetts colonists, such as forbidding them to hold meetings because they didn't want the colonists making up a plan to rebel. The Acts under the Intolerable Acts were the Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Administration of Justice Act (Murder Act), and the Quebec Act.
Boston Port Act
This act prohibited trading within Boston and shipping or importing goods at Boston Harbor.
Massachusetts Government Act
This act put better regulating of the government of Massachusetts Bay .
Administration of Justice Act (Murder Act)
The governor of Massachusetts could move trials of royal officials accused of committing capital offenses to another colony or to Great Britain, if the person would not receive a fair trial in Massachusetts.
The Quebec Act
This act established the Roman Catholic Church as the church of Quebec. They also appointed a council instead of an elected body to make major decisions for the colony. The British also granted land to the French in Quebec that the colonists clearly wanted. The British did not make any connection between the Intolerable Acts and the Quebec Act but the colonists knew it was a part of the Intolerable Acts.
In effect of the Intolerable Acts and all the tension between the colonies and Great Britain. They finally called the 1st Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
